
The Radio Operators – Short-Range Certificate (SRC) radio course is for all candidates that operate their vessels that are a Category D, C or B or if a VHF radio is installed. All candidates must have a Marine radio operator’s licence for the use of the radio as well as the set itself that will need to be licenced with ICASA.
The next SRC course date is:
31 JANUARY 2026 SATURDAY
This is a one-day course starting at 8am with the option of being over 2 days if more study time is required.

- C1 DCS Distress, Urgency and safety comms
- C2 Protection of distress frequencies
- C3 Alerting, comms and locating signals
- D1 Exchange communications
14:00: Break
- D2 Practical and theoretical knowledge of radio communication procedures
- Theoretical and Practical assessment.

Which includes the following:

- Eventide Marine doing all 3 trips back and forth to SAMSA submitting and collecting applications and licenses as well as sending out notifications when the licences are ready for collection.
Course fees must be paid on booking and course material collected prior to the course date to read through the course material
Bring with to the course:
- Copy of your ID which must be a certified copy not more than 3 months old.
- Black Pen,
- The manual that you received for the course.
- Course fees R3000 cash or EFT beforehand, no card facilities.
- Please bring your own lunch and beverages. (There are close by shops to purchase lunch)

Directions
When travelling from the Cape Town direction along the N2
Travel in the direction of Sir Lowry’s Pass. (N2)
At the foot of the Pass’ traffic lights turn right towards Gordon’s Bay, this road is called Sir Lowry’s Pass Road but is not marked.
Continue that road ± 4.7 km, until you get to the last house on the left-hand side, Number 2.
Please Park on the opposite side of the offices on the grassed, designated parking area.
Issuing of the licence, process:
- The course gets conducted with us, ID photos taken and the Examining (theory and practical)
- Once you have passed, a certificate of course attendance is provided.
- We take your certificate, application form, certified ID copy; ID photos and registration fees to SAMSA Cape Town
- A wait of +-2 weeks for the interim certificate to get issued by SAMSA.
- I collect the interim from them and notify you that you can collect the interim from our offices.
- Your original licence will then get processed by SAMSA in Pretoria, this can take up to 6 months plus.
- Once the original is available, I will collect the license from SAMSA CT and notify you so you can collect from our offices in Gordons Bay.
SAMSA will possibly notify you via email when the licence is ready for collection, if this happens then please notify me so I can collect it on your behalf.
Terms
- Course will be conducted in English
- Candidates must be 16 years of age and older.
- Full payment to be paid on booking, prior to the course date.
- No refund of course fees.
- If you are found “Not yet Competent” in the examining, you have another opportunity to rewrite free of charge at our next or future course date but not exceeding 3 months after the first course date.
- Maximum of 10 students per course.
